Before You Say

Terms of Use

Updated 25 September 2026

These are the terms you agree to by using Before You Say. They are between you and Before You Say.

They are written to be read. If a sentence here is unclear, that is a fault worth telling us about.

What this app is

A place to rehearse a conversation before you have it. You describe the situation, the app plays the other person, and afterwards it tells you how it went.

The other person is not real. They are written by a model from what you said, and they are as accurate as your description of them.

This is practice, not advice

The feedback here is written by a model. It is a rehearsal partner and a second opinion. It is not legal advice, medical advice, a human resources decision, or a professional judgement about your workplace.

The decisions stay yours. Nothing here should be treated as the last word on a real conversation with a real person, and nothing here knows the things you did not type into it.

If someone is at risk

This app cannot help with an emergency, and nobody reads what you write here.

If you or somebody else is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services. If the situation involves harassment, discrimination, or anything unlawful at work, take it to a person who can act on it: someone in your organisation, a lawyer, or the appropriate authority where you live.

Your account

One account, one person. Keep your sign-in to yourself; anything done from your account is treated as done by you.

You can delete your account at any time from Settings under “Your data”. Deletion is immediate.

Your Pro subscription

Some features in this app need Pro. It is sold through the App Store as an auto-renewing subscription — its length and its price are shown on the purchase screen before you buy, and payment is taken from your Apple ID account the moment you confirm.

Deleting your account does not cancel it. They are separate: Apple keeps billing until you cancel the subscription yourself, whether or not the account it was paying for still exists.

  • It renews automatically for another period of the same length, at the same price, unless you turn auto-renew off at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
  • Cancel it from your iPhone, not from inside this app: Settings, your name, Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal — the period you already paid for still runs to its end.
  • If a free trial is offered on a plan, buying that plan while the trial is running forfeits whatever was left of it.
  • Refunds are Apple’s decision, not ours. The purchase runs through their store, so ask them, not us.
  • Reinstalled the app, or moved to a new phone? Restore purchases finds a subscription you already own, rather than charging you for a second one.

What you may not do here

This short list is about protecting other people.

  • Do not use the app to plan harm to anyone or prepare something unlawful.
  • Do not upload anything you are not allowed to share, such as a document under someone else’s confidentiality.
  • Do not try to break, overload, or work around the app or reach someone else’s account.
  • Do not resell what the app produces or pass it off as a professional assessment of someone.

What you write stays yours

You keep everything you type here. We use it to run the app for you: the practice, feedback, and notes. The Privacy Policy explains this in full.

The app itself, its wording, and its design stay ours.

What we do not promise

The app is provided as it is. We cannot promise it is always available, that a practice always finishes, or that the feedback is right about your situation.

What we do promise is on the Privacy Policy page: what you write here is yours, it is never shown to anyone you work with, and you can delete it.

Ending this

You can stop using the app whenever you like and delete the account with it.

We can close an account used to break the rules above. If that happens for any other reason, you are told why.

When these terms change

The date at the top is when they last changed. A change that affects what you may do, or what we may do with what you wrote, is shown inside the app.
